Northwest School of Survival was founded in 1983 by our President Brian Wheeler. Our goal then and now remains the same: to provide year-round professional hands-on safety training in the skills required for preventing or surviving remote backcountry emergencies. Our instructors are all professionals and highly skilled in their respective fields. Each will provide quality instruction drawing from years of previous knowledge and experience. Most of them are also certified as well as active members on mountain rescue teams. We are convinced that we have some of the finest, well-trained outdoor educators in the world.
NWSOS - ITP has grown from a small business to a company that provides vital hands-on training for the U.S. Military & Government Agencies, and some of the largest corporations in the world. We are #1 in the energy/telecommunication industries for providing corporate safety training for remote survival situations as well as operation of off-road/snow mechanized forms of travel, e.g. snowcat, snowmobile, ATV, 4X4, etc.
We also provide public training programs to recreationalists, search and rescue teams, backcountry professionals, teachers, and others whose lives literally depend on the skills acquired. If you work/play in remote wilderness locations, we have a course for you. Whether it’s cold weather survival or wilderness survival, map & compass /GPS navigation or a guided Mt Hood Summit Climb, we can provide basic through advanced instruction for any skill set covered in our courses.
We offer year-round training at our base of operations (Mt Hood, Oregon) or we can travel to your location (U.S. Training Sites) anywhere in the world. Regardless of which type of event you choose and where, your safety is our top priority. Our instructors work year round in remote mountainous cold weather regions and understand the stresses and hazards faced when working /training in adverse conditions. We hope you will join us for some of the most thrilling and memorable experiences of your life.
