This program begins with our Basic Climb School where each participant will learn basic crampon/ice axe use and self arrest. As the day progresses we will work on rope management skills as well as team arrest. Other topics will include pre-trip planning, proper clothing, food and hydration. Our second day begins with a snow cat ride to the top of the Palmer snow field (8,500’) where we will begin our climb to the summit on the South Side route of Mt Hood (11,239’) while making use of the skills learned the previous day.
If you don’t already have your climbing gear, technical equipment can be provided at no additional cost, if you reserve ahead of time (i.e. helmet, boots, crampons, ice axe, harness). |
